'She wants to set the record straight by letting everyone know that it is true that she has been diagnosed with thyroid cancer, however, the prognosis is very good.'

Ms Everhart, who gave birth to son Kayden in 2009 following her break-up from fiancé, Joe Pesci, in 2008, 'expects to be back to work and to mommy duties in a few weeks,' the rep said.

More recently she has appeared in films Payback (2006), Bigfoot (2008), and Take Me Home Tonight (2011), and last year she began co-hosting the weekly live podcast Hot N Heavy with Greg Wilson on the Toad Hop Network.
The Ohio-born single mother tweeted on Friday: 'I'm reflecting on my life these days. . . I have been sooo lucky, super happy, but nothing beats being a MOM!! I love you Kayden!!'

Her rep explained that she released the information about her health to 'encourage people to learn about cancer prevention, its signs and treatment immediately.'

Thyroid cancer occurs in the cells of the thyroid — a butterfly-shaped gland located at the base of the neck, which produces hormones to regulate heart rate, blood pressure, body temperature and weight.

Although thyroid cancer is relatively uncommon in the U.S., it is the fastest increasing cancer in both men and women, according to the Thyroid Cancer Survivors' Association.

Medical experts believe this is because new technology is diagnosing small thyroid cancers that may not have been found in the past.
Many patients, especially in the early stages of thyroid cancer, do not experience symptoms.
However, as the cancer develops, symptoms can include difficulty swallowing or breathing, and pain in the throat or neck, increasing hoarseness in one's voice, and swollen lymph nodes in the neck.
