Rizzo $41 million: Anthony Rizzo signs with Cubs for $41 million, An Anthony Rizzo $41 million deal has been reached with the Chicago Cubs. The MLB first baseman has reportedly agreed to a seven-year contract with the team.

As reported by Salon.com on May 13, the contract between Rizzo and the Cubs could be worth as much as $68 million over nine seasons. Right now, the contract is for just 7 years, and a total of $41 million. Rizzo will receive a $750,000 salary for this year, which is a nearly $500k increase since the agreement he reached back in March.

Another nice detail of the contract for Rizzo is that he receives a signing bonus of a cool $2 million. $250,000 of that amount is payable within a month of the contract receiving approval from MLB. The rest would be payable by next Jan. 15.

Anthony Rizzo is currently 23 and was initially a sixth round draft choice by the Boston Red Sox. He played in the minor league organizations including time spent with the Salem Red Sox, but never played for the pro team. In 2010, he was dealt along with several other players to the Padres in a deal that sent Adrian Gonzalez to the Sox. Rizzo made his MLB debut for the Padres in 2011, but in 2012, he was part of yet another deal, where the Cubs sent Andrew Cashner and Kyung-Min Na to the Padres.

Through the current season Rizzo has achieved career stats of 25 home runs, 85 RBI and a .253 batting average with the Cubs.
